This plan won the 2009 National Green Building Award for Single Family Concept/Research! We already won the Most Innovative Home Award in our local Home Tour, and our S-1 plan just won the Gold Award for Custom Homes in a Moderate Climate at the national Energy Value Housing Award competition sponsored by the US Department of Energy and the NAHB Research Center. In March 2009 we were honored with the Net Zero-Energy Home of the Year Award from Built Green® Washington, the largest state-wide green building organization in the US.
Even better, we received word from the owners last year that this home used LESS THAN $100 in total energy in it’s first full year of operation! New figures for the second year indicate similar usage, in spite of a poor sun year in the Pacific Northwest for PV panels. This home has a HERS score of 32 with only 3kW of solar panels.
